Gorgeous harmonies! Relatable lyrics! GIRL POWER! Girl groups have been a critical part of the pop music landscape since at least the 1960s (and arguably earlier). From the Motown legends to 80s New Wave bands to the Brit groups of the 90s to the reality-show-created ensembles of the 2000s, girl groups have topped the charts and captured our hearts for more than 70 years. Now as part of Season 7, the Great Pop Culture Debate wants to determine the best girl group of all time, and we want YOUR opinions!
Below find a list of just about every major girl group we could think of (you can also take the poll by clicking here). For our purposes, a “girl group” is any music act that is 1) comprised solely of women and 2) had at least an element of pop in their music. We included groups of all generations, and included international groups if they had significant success in the United States. Select your favorites — vote for as many as you like — and share with your friends and family for them to take. The more votes we get the better balanced the results.
