While duets have a long history in popular music, they exploded in popularity during the 1980s. Many were heart-wrenching romantic ballads of lust and loss, but others were bombastic declarations of friendship and independence. But if you were a top-tier musical artist of the decades, chances are you had at least one smash hit you shared with another music icon. And now the Great Pop Culture Debate wants to look back at these shared successes as we debate the Best 1980s Duet!
Below find a list of every major 80s duet we could think of. If you’re taking on a mobile device, we recommend clicking here for ease of use. For our purposes, the duets had to involve more than one musical entity (so for instance, Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” doesn’t count because that’s a duet between the band’s primary singers).
Select as many songs from the list as you like. Did we miss your favorite? Add it in the space provided; we might discuss it in the episode! Then send the polls to your friends and have them chime in on their favorite 80s duets.
The poll will run until September 30, 2023. Make sure to submit your answer by then!
The 16 top vote-getters will be discussed on the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast. Find out more at greatpopculturedebate.com.
