The Aughts — the years between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2009 — were a tumultuous period, to say the least. Still, those difficult times produced some spectacular new works of American pop culture, including in the Broadway musical genre. A slew of shows introduced during that decade became monster smashes that still play on Broadway today, and many more made significant marks in the Broadway canon. Now for Season 8 of the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast, we want to look back at that period and answer the question: what IS the Best 2000s Broadway Musical? And we need YOUR help to do it!
Below find a list of every 2000s Broadway musical we could think of. (If you’re taking the poll on a mobile device, we strongly recommend you follow the link here for ease of use.) For our purposes, the shows must have been NEW — not revivals — and debuted on actual Broadway — not Off-Broadway — between 1/1/2000 and 12/31/2009. Anything after that may be covered by a future episode of the podcast. Pick as many shows as you like! The Top 32 vote getters will be added to a bracket for the podcast panelists to discuss.
Did we miss your favorite? Add it to the form in the space below and we may add it to the poll! Then share with your Broadway-loving friends and have them make their picks. The more votes we get, the better balanced the bracket will be!
The poll will run until July 30, 2023. Make sure to submit your answer by then!
The 32 top vote-getters will be discussed in Season 8 of the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast, debuting in fall 2023. Find out more at greatpopculturedebate.com.
