John Waters — AKA the Pope of Trash — has been a fixture in the alternative filmmaking community for nearly 60 years. His audacious, shocking — yet somehow reverential — films have transcended cult classics, as he has become a household name and contributed significantly to the art-house cinema canon. Now, on the 60th anniversary of his very first short film, the Great Pop Culture Debate wants to determine: what is the BEST John Waters Film?
Below find a list of all the movies — both short and long (we aren’t size queens) — John Waters has either written, directed, or produced. For the purposes of this debate, we aren’t considering films in which he has made a cameo appearance or worked as an actor or narrator. We’re concerned with the films that are undeniably, unmistakably John Waters joints.
Pick your favorites from the list below. (If you’re taking this on a mobile device we recommend clicking here for ease of use.) If you think we forgot any, please add them in the space provided. Then share the poll with your John Waters-loving friends; the more votes we get, the more divine the bracket will be!
The results will be discussed on the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast. Find out more at greatpopculturedebate.com.
