POLL: Best Legion of Super Heroes Member

July 14, 2023

Initially appearing in 1958, DC Comics’ Legion of Super Heroes provides comic readers with something different than your typical super team. Primarily set far into the future — namely the 31st Century — the Legion is a massive collection of aliens from dozens of planets, each putting their own unique abilities to use in defending peace across the universe, and fostering inter-planetary alliances. At its best, the property delivers a utopian sci-fi vision of the future, starring idealistic — and sometimes rebellious — teens inspired by the 21st Century icons we all know. Over its nearly 70-year history, and at least 4 full continuity reboots, the Legion has been home to dozens of terrific team members. Now the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast wants to determine: who IS the Best Legion of Super Heroes Team Member? And we need YOUR help to do it!

Below find a list of every official Legion of Super Heroes team member we could think of. Note that we condensed multiple versions of the same character into one entry, even if the rebooted versions varied wildly in aesthetic, origin, or personality (Princess Projectra was even a giant snake for a while!). While not all versions of the character are created equal, we didn’t want a bracket with 4 Saturn Girls or 2 Shrinking Violets, so they received one entry each. That said, if completely different individuals shared a codename (the different Superboys or Infernos, for instance), they were listed separately. We included Legion of Substitute Heroes entries, but did not include Legion Academy members.

Select you favorites from the list below; pick as many as you like. (If you’re taking this on a mobile device, we recommend clicking here for ease of use.) Did we miss your favorite? Add it in the space provided and we may discuss the character in our episode. Once you’re done, make sure to share the poll with your friends, family, and far-flung future descendants. The more votes we get, the better balanced the bracket will be. Just as RJ Brande intended!

The 32 top vote-getters will be discussed in a future edition of the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast. Find out more at greatpopculturedebate.com.
