Maybe you hung their posters on your wall. Maybe you scribbled lyrics from their songs in your notebook. Maybe you stood in line outside their concerts, hoping to catch a glimpse of them arriving to the venue. Or maybe you just really liked their music and thought they were kind of cute. Boy bands! Pop music’s leading renewable resource. Those adorable faces and heavenly harmonies have been a key component of the music industry since at least the 1950s. And now the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast wants to know: what is the best boy band of all time? And we need YOUR help to make the decision!
Below find a list of 70 notable boy bands, from any decade and any country. (You can also take the poll here.) How are we defining boy band? It has to have more than two members, they all have to be men, they have to create pop- or pop-adjacent music, and they have to be widely considered a “boy band.” So, for instance, the Beatles DO count as a boy band, but the Rolling Stones do not (have you ever heard the Stones referred to as a boy band?). It is an inexact science, we admit. Did we miss your favorite? Include them in the provided field and we may discuss them in the episode! Then send to your friends and have them make their picks.
