J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth is still — nearly 100 years after its premiere — arguably the most preeminent high-fantasy property in pop culture, with numerous books, two blockbuster film trilogies, some charming animated adaptations, video games, and an upcoming Amazon Prime TV series. From The Shire to the Misty Mountains, Tolkien’s world remains fertile soil for creators nearly 50 years after his death. Now, the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast wants to determine: who IS the best character from Tolkien’s two flagship properties, “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”? And we need YOUR opinions!
Below find a list of just about every significant character we could think of in “LOTR” and “The Hobbit.” (You can also take the poll by clicking here.) These could be characters that appeared in the books but not the film adaptations, or original creations from the films that were not initially present in the source material. Go through the list and pick your favorites — you can select as many as you like.
Did we miss your favorite “LOTR”/”Hobbit” character? Add it to the form below; we may discuss them in the episode! Then send the poll to your Tolkien-loving friends and have them chime in with the characters they feel are…precious.
The poll will run until Friday, July 1. Make sure to submit your answers by then!
The 16 top vote-getters will be discussed on an upcoming episode of the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast in late summer 2022. Find out more at greatpopculturedebate.com.
