The year has just begun, but already we are longing for summer. Warm breezes. Lazy afternoons. Margaritas by the beach. And amazing tunes to set the vibe. Each year America collectively defines its songs of the summer, so for one of our 2024 Summer Specials, the Great Pop Culture Debate wants to feel the heat as we name the Best “Summer” Song — and we need YOUR votes to do it!
Below find a list of hundreds — literally hundreds, sorry, there’s a lot of qualifying songs — of notable summer songs. (If you’re taking this on a mobile device click here for ease of use.)
For our purposes, we included songs that met one of these criteria:
- 1. Were among Billboard’s Top 10 most-popular songs of each summer from the 1960s to 2023
- 2. Were notable songs with the word “summer” in the title
- 3. Had lyrics that directly refer to life in the summer
