Technological advancements, European influences, and a deep societal need to shake that ass created the perfect breeding ground for the explosion in dance music in the 1990s. From dance club floors to wedding receptions, dance music was everywhere at the end of the 20th Century, with some of biggest hits even crossing over into mainstream radio. Now, 30-plus years later (good lord…), Great Pop Culture Debate wants to put its hands up and determine the best 90s dance hit of all time. And we need YOUR opinions!
Below find a list of just about every major American dance hit from the 90s we could think of. If you’re taking this on a mobile device, we recommend clicking this link for ease of use. Note that for our purposes, we focused on songs that charted on the U.S. Billboard Dance chart, and were released between January 1, 1990, and December 31, 1999. Unless they had Dance Chart success, upbeat pop songs from that period did not meet our criteria. Some songs had multiple successful remixes; please vote for the base song and we will try to cover any significant remixes should the song make the bracket.
Go through the list and pick your favorites; you can choose as many as you like. Note that the songs are randomized, so if you’re looking for a specific track we recommend doing a Ctrl+F to find it.
Did we miss your favorite? Add it to the poll in the space provided below! Then send it to your dance-music-loving friends so they can pick their favorites. The more responses we receive, the better balanced the bracket will be!
The poll will run until October 27. Make sure to submit your answer by then!
The 16 top vote-getters will be discussed in an upcoming episode of the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast. Find out more at greatpopculturedebate.com.
