POLL: Best Song of 1994

November 29, 2023

Folks, 2024 is just around around the corner, and that will mean it will be 30 YEARS since 1994. THIRTY. YEARS. That said, 1994 was a pretty great year for music. In the days right before the inventions of Napster and the iPod, radio, MTV, VH1, record stores, and CD clubs (remember those?) still had an iron grip on what most Americans listened to. It was a diverse mix of genres and artists, with dance hits, grunge bands, rap, r’n’b, alternative rock, adult-contemporary ballads, and even some folk-pop indie darlings piercing through the noise and topping the charts. Now, continuing our series of looking back at songs from 20, 30, and 40 years ago, the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast wants to determine: what WAS the best song of 1994? And we need your opinions to do it!

Below find a list of 100+ major American hit songs that were released in 1994, or saw massive success that year. (If you’re taking this on a mobile device, we recommend clicking here for ease of use.) The core of the list was taken from the Billboard Top 100 Singles chart for that year, with some additional must-have songs added for good measure. Go through the list and select your favorites (pick as many as you like); the top vote-getters will determine the Top 32 songs our podcast will debate in early 2024.

Did we miss your favorite? Add it in the space provided below and we may discuss it in the episode.

Once you’re done, share the poll with your friends and music-loving friends. The more votes we get, the better balanced the bracket will be.

This poll will run until December 7, 2023. Make sure to submit your answer by then!

The 32 top vote-getters will be discussed in Season 9 of the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast, debuting in Spring 2024. Find out more at greatpopculturedebate.com.
